Loi Krathong in Koh Samui
Loi Krathong is one of the most beautiful public holidays in Thailand and is held annually in the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month. This year, on 6th of November. Throughout the country locals tinker Krathongs, small boats made from banana leaves. The Krathongs, in the shape of a lotus flower, are lowered into the water to pay Mae Khongkha the river goddess their respect. The burning candles, incense and flowers on the Krathongs will wash evil and sins away.
Lovers launch their Krathong always together into the water with the firm belief to experience eternal love thereby.
On the Origin of Loi Krathong there are many legends and myths. But it is certain that Loi Krathong has its origin in Hinduism where the boat will be exposed at the end of the rainy season to say thank you for the rice harvest.
Be there when we build the Krathongs with our guests to lower them into the water.
